SGMF Publishes LCA on Methanol as Marine Fuel
SGMF has published its latest Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) on methanol as a marine fuel, highlighting the greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction potential of renewable and synthetic methanol production pathways. The study evaluates 15 methanol production pathways and finds that methanol produced using renewable energy sources can deliver substantial emissions reductions. The publication follows SGMF's third edition LNG Life Cycle Assessment, released earlier this year, and its inaugural ammonia LCA, published in 2024.
Wärtsilä Signs Lifecycle Agreement With Mercy Ships International
Wärtsilä has signed a Lifecycle Agreement with charity organization Mercy Ships International. The contract covers a 5-year renewal of an existing service agreement for the world's largest purpose-built civilian hospital ship, the Global Mercy, and a 3-year service agreement for the organization’s latest newbuild vessel, the Africa Mercy II. Both ships are fitted with Wärtsilä engines. The order was booked by Wärtsilä in Q3 2026.Mercy Ships provides free medical care, including surgeries and medical training…
SGMF Life Cycle Assessment of LNG Highlights Up to 29% Tank-to-Wake GHG Emissions Reduction
SGMF has published its latest Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) on LNG, further demonstrating reductions in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions compared to traditional marine fuels. One of the key findings is evidence of up to 29% tank-to-wake GHG emissions reductions when using LNG compared to MGO 0.1%, an improvement of up to 13% compared to the previous LCA conducted in 2022. This progress contributes to overall well-to-wake GHG emissions reductions of up to 25%, supported in part by…
