Petrobras and Transpetro Invest in Gas Carries, Inland Vessels
On January 20, Brazil President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva will sign contracts for the construction of vessels for the Mar Aberto Program, an initiative aimed at renewing and expanding the Petrobras fleet.Petrobras and Transpetro are contracting five gas carrier ships, in addition to 18 barges and 18 pushboats, in a total investment of R$ 2.8 billion, with the potential to generate more than 9,000 direct and indirect jobs.All vessels will be operated by Transpetro and built in shipyards in three states.
NYK Names Dual-Fuel LPG Carrier Newbuild
A newly built very large gas carrier (VLGC) was named Lucent Pathfinder at a ceremony held at Kawasaki Heavy Industries’ Sakaide Works, marking the seventh dual-fuel LPG carrier using LPG ordered by NYK.The vessel, which will be chartered by United Arab Emirates-based LPG trader BGN INT DMCC, is designed for the global transportation of liquefied petroleum gas and is capable of operating on both heavy fuel oil and LPG.The naming ceremony was attended by around 30 stakeholders.
Panama Canal Bets on LPG Transits

LPG-Laden Tanker on Fire Off Yemen
The LPG-laden tanker MV Falcon was on fire and adrift on Saturday off the coast of Yemen, after it reported an explosion that forced members of its crew to abandon the vessel, the European Union's naval force Aspides said in a statement.The cause of the explosion was unclear but most likely an accident, according to initial indications, Aspides said. Alfa Laval Books Fuel Supply System Order for Four New LPG Carriers
Alfa Laval has secured an order for FCM LPG fuel supply system for four new LPG carrier projects in Asia.The orders cover two 50,000 CBM medium-sized gas carriers being built at Jiangnan Shipyard in China for a Vietnamese shipowner, and two 87,000 CBM large-sized gas carriers under construction at Namura Shipbuilding in Japan for a Japanese shipowner.The FCM LPGs will be delivered in 2026, according to Alfa Laval.These latest orders reflect Alfa Laval’s strong relationship with the shipyards, system builders and shipowners, built on successful project deliveries and service.
