Marine Group Boat Works Wins Contract to Build Low-Emissions Catalina Express Ferry

Marine Group Boat Works (MGBW), a boatbuilding and repair company operating a shipyard in Chula Vista, California, has been selected to begin construction of a new low-emissions passenger ferry for Catalina Express. The vessel is expected to be launched and begin sea trials in the third quarter of 2027.Catalina Express is part of the LA MER (Los Angeles Marine Emission Reduction) project, a collaborative initiative between CARB and the Port of Los Angeles. Backed by a $31 million CARB grant, the project aims to accelerate the adoption of lower emission harbor craft across California.

Wärtsilä, Carnival Corporation Sign Lifecycle Agreement to Support Cruise Fleet Performance

Wärtsilä and Carnival Corporation, the world’s largest cruise company, have entered into an 8-year Lifecycle Agreement covering four cruise vessels within the Princess Cruises and Carnival Cruise Line fleets, including two newbuild vessels currently under construction. The agreement marks the first service contract between the companies covering Carnival Corporation’s LNG-fuelled cruise ships. Under the agreement, Wärtsilä will provide a comprehensive lifecycle maintenance solution for the vessels’ Wärtsilä dual-fuel engines and related equipment.

Cavotec to Retrofit Container Vessels for Shore Power

Cavotec has signed an order valued at USD$8.02 million (EUR 7 million) with a global container shipping company to retrofit vessels for shore power.The order covers the retrofit of low- and medium-voltage container vessels with shore power technology. The retrofitting work will be carried out while the vessels remain in operation. The order was signed in the second quarter 2026 and delivery is expected during 2026.With this order means, the customer has selected Cavotec to equip a total of 24 container ships with shore power during 2025 and 2026.

Sanmar Delivers Tugboats to SAAM Towage

Sanmar Shipyards has delivered two tugboats to SAAM Towage, a pair of IMO Tier Ill-compliant vessels were recently handed over to SAAM Towage representatives at Sanmar Shipyards' Altinova facilities in Türkiye following sea trials. Renamed SAAM CARANCHO and SAAM KANAN, the tugboats will be deployed in Chile and Mexico respectively.With these latest deliveries, the number of Sanmar-built tugboats operating within the SAAM Towage fleet has increased to 15.SAAM CARANCHO is a Bigaçay Class escort tug based on the RAstar 2900SX design developed for Sanmar by Robert Allan Ltd.

HaiSea Marine is expanding its fleet on BC's North Coast and has placed orders for one new escort tugboat and two terminal tugboats.The contract to build an escort tug was awarded to Sanmar Shipyards, based in Türkiye. The escort vessel is a variant of the well-proven Robert Allan designed RAstar 4000 series of high-performance escort tugs, and features a similar design to the widely acclaimed HaiSea tugs of the same class currently deployed in Kitimat.HaiSea awarded Damen Shipyards Group the contract to build two ASD 2813 terminal tugboats.

Dutch maritime design house Vuyk Engineering was selected by heavy lift shipping and offshore transportation contractor Jumbo Maritime for its newly ordered L-Class heavy lift transport vessels (HLTV). Damen Delivers Second Combi Freighter 3850 to Reederei Bernd Sibum

On March 25, Damen Shipyards Group delivered the second of four Combi Freighters (CF) 3850 to Reederei Bernd Sibum following successful sea trials in Shanghai. The vessels are being constructed at Damen Yichang Shipyard in China. The first vessel, delivered at the beginning of February, is currently on its maiden voyage, bound for Norway with a project cargo.The new generation CF 3850 vessels are designed for high efficiency. In their standard form the vessels are able to sail on 100% biofuel and are prepared for hybrid propulsion.

Damen Multi Cat 2309 Named Lütt Matten by Havariekommando

On March 12, Havariekommando, Germany’s Central Command for Maritime Emergencies (CCME), held a naming ceremony for its latest vessel, a Damen Multi Cat (MuC) 2309. The vessel, named Lütt Matten, will operate out of Sassnitz on the Baltic island of Rügen, providing emergency response capabilities. GTT Receives Tank Design Order for Samsung Heavy Industries LNG Carriers

GTT announced that it has received, in the fourth quarter of 2025, an order from the shipyard Samsung Heavy Industries for the tank design of two new Liquefied Natural Gas Carriers (LNGCs) on behalf of the ship-owner Purus. GTT will be responsible for the design of the cryogenic tanks for the two vessels, each offering a total capacity of 174,000 m³. The tanks will be fitted with GTT’s Mark III Flex membrane containment system.Delivery of the vessels is expected between 2028 and 2029.
