Posted to Maritime Reporter TV (by on June 3, 2026

The C32B from Caterpillar Marine is a modified high-horsepower Cat powerplant that is optimized for inland towboat operations. It will soon conclude a six-year, 33,000-hour trial onboard an ACBL towboat, and Gary Sarrat, Jr., Global Segment Team Leader Inland Waterways and Commercial Fishing, Caterpillar Marine, discusses that trial, as well as all of the areas that have been improved and hardened on the C32B -- from cylinder heads, to crankshaft, to bearings, to pistons as well as the engine block -- to ensure that the C32B is a robust choice for the demanding inland waterways sector.
