Germany builds up LNG import terminals
Germany is expanding its natural gas import options to replace Russian supply, a drive intensified by the latest suspension of Russian flows via Ukraine and U.S. President Donald Trump targeting Europe with liquefied natural gas exports.Plans also include shore-based regasification terminals and facilities to import and produce ammonia and green hydrogen under decarbonization strategies. A synopsis of changes and additions to Germany's energy plans and infrastructure is listed below:MUKRANMukran…
US NatGas Demand Could Hit Record High
U.S. spot natural gas and power prices soared to multi-year highs in several parts of the country with extreme cold expected to boost gas demand to a daily record high on Tuesday.Extreme weather has created havoc for power and gas markets in recent years as demand has come close to outpacing supply. In February 2021, a freeze in Texas killed more than 200 people and left millions without power, water and heat for days after extreme cold caused gas supplies to drop by freezing oil and gas infrastructure…
GTT wins Tank Design Order for 6 LNG Carriers
GTT announces that it has received, in the first quarter of 2025, an order from its partner the Chinese shipyard Hudong-Zhonghua (Group) Co. Ltd. for the tank design of six new very large Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) carriers. These six LNG carriers will each feature a total capacity of 271,000 m³ and will be fitted with GTT’s NO96 Super+ membrane containment system.Deliveries of the vessels are scheduled for the second quarter of 2028, the second and third quarters of 2029, the first and third quarters of 2031.
Germany's Wilhelmshaven Terminal offers May LNG Capacity
Deutsche Energy Terminal (DET) said on Thursday that Germany's Wilhelmshaven liquefied natural gas terminal intends to market capacity for ships to discharge LNG in May 2025, adding that there would be limited slots available in the first quarter there and at another location.DET has been commissioned by Berlin since the height of Europe's energy crisis in 2022 to market regasification of gas volumes arriving on LNG tankers, as well as related storage and gas deliveries to inland transport grids.Germany's LNG terminals have helped calm markets by giving evidence that gas supplies are being stabilised and new overseas suppliers sought after westward gas exports from Russia stopped.
US Study of LNG Exports due on Tuesday
President Joe Biden's administration will release as soon as Tuesday a study on exports of liquefied natural gas that is expected to stop short of saying the trade is not in the public interest, two industry sources with knowledge of the issue said.Biden in January paused the Department of Energy's approvals of U.S. LNG exports to big consumers in Asia and Europe in order for his administration to conduct the study on the environmental and economic impacts of the booming industry.President-elect Donald Trump opposed the pause and has said he would move quickly to overturn it. Trump's transition team is working to roll out an energy package within days of his taking office on Jan.
Cheniere gets FERC OK for Corpus Christi LNG
Federal regulators on Wednesday gave Cheniere Energy permission to introduce natural gas into its Corpus Christi expansion project, a document showed. The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) said Cheniere could introduce natural gas to its fuel gas and hot oil systems. The decision follows an October 17 order allowing Cheniere to take liquefied gas from the Stage 3 plant to its refrigerated liquid storage facilities. The decision moves Cheniere Energy one step closer to producing first LNG from its Stage 3 LNG plant.Cheniere is the largest U.S. LNG exporter and the world's second largest producer of the superchilled gas. The company has played a key role in helping the U.S.
Trump to Boost LNG Exports, Oil Drilling from Day 1
Donald Trump's transition team is putting together a wide-ranging energy package to roll out within days of his taking office that would approve export permits for new liquefied natural gas (LNG) projects and increase oil drilling off the U.S. coast and on federal lands, according to two sources familiar with the plans. The energy checklist largely reflects promises Trump made on the campaign trail, but the plan to roll out the list as early as day one ensures that oil and gas production will rank alongside immigration as a pillar of Trump's early agenda.Trump, a Republican, also plans to repeal some of his Democratic predecessor's key climate legislation and regulations…
Woodside: LNG Market to Grow by 50% in Next Decade
Australia's Woodside Energy WDS.AX expects the global market for liquefied natural gas (LNG) to grow by 50% in the coming decade, its CEO said on Tuesday."Over the last decade the LNG market grew by 50%. We anticipate it will grow by another 50% in the coming decade," Meg O’Neill told the Energy Intelligence Forum in London.O'Neill said the company had received interest from a lot of onshore gas players and other companies to partner with its Driftwood LNG project and talks were ongoing."We've got the balance sheet to fund our 50%. We want to keep our 50% in our portfolio so we're not out rushing to do cheap deals for LNG, because we think we have a quality opportunity that's ahead of others in the queue," O’Neill said.Woodside agreed in July to buy U.S.
Freeport Gets US OK to Begin Steps to Restart LNG Plant
Freeport LNG, the second-biggest U.S. liquefied natural gas (LNG) exporter, got approval from federal regulators on Thursday to take early steps to restart its fire-idled LNG export plant in Texas.Freeport, however, has not yet sought permission to restart the liquefaction trains that turn natural gas into LNG for export. That resumption of LNG production will have to come in a later request with federal regulators.Energy analysts have said they still expect most of the plant's…
