GTT Receives Tank Order from Hanwha Ocean

GTT has received an order from its partner the shipyard Hanwha Ocean for the tank design of a new LNG1 Carrier, on behalf of a North America-based ship-owner.The vessel will be equipped with cryogenic tanks designed by GTT for the transport of LNG, offering a total capacity of 174,000 m³. These tanks will incorporate the NO96 L03+ membrane containment system, a technology developed by GTT.Delivery of the vessel is scheduled for the second quarter of 2028.

GTT Receives Tank Design Order from Samsung Heavy Industries for Two LNG Carriers

GTT announces that it has received, during the third quarter of 2025, an order from the shipyard Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) for the tank design of two new LNG Carriers.Each vessel, with a total LNG cargo capacity of 180,000 m³, will be fitted with cryogenic tanks designed by GTT and equipped with GTT’s Mark III Flex membrane containment system.Delivery of the vessels is scheduled from 2028 onwards.

Lloyd’s Register (LR) has granted Approval in Principle (AiP) to Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) for the design of a 174,000m³ LNG carrier equipped with Wind Challenger, a wind-assisted propulsion system (WAPS) developed by Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL). The AiP was formally awarded during a ceremony at Gastech 2025. While LNG carriers already operate with comparatively lower carbon emissions than conventional oil-fueled ships, the integration of the Wind Challenger demonstrates the potential to further reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by harnessing renewable wind energy.

LNG Carrier Al Zuwair Delivered to QatarEnergy

The 174,000 cubic meter capacity LNG carrier Al Zuwair has been delivered from the HHI Ulsan Shipyard of HD Hyundai Heavy Industries and will be deployed under a time-charter contract with QatarEnergy. The vessel will be managed by the NYK Group.Al Zuwair is the third of 12 new LNG carriers being built for QatarEnergy by a joint venture comprising NYK, Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, MISC Berhad, and China LNG Shipping (Holdings) Limited.This delivery marks the first of these vessels built at HHI.

SHI Secures Order for Six LNG Carriers

Samsung Heavy Industries has secured orders for six LNG carriers from two shipowners from Oceania.The vessels, two for one owner, four for the other, are expected to be delivered starting November 2028.Business Korea reports that Samsung Heavy Industries has secured orders for seven LNG carriers, nine shuttle tankers, two ethane carriers, four crude oil tankers, two container ships, and one offshore production facility (pre-work) this year.Samsung Heavy Industries is expected to secure part of the Mozambique FLNG project and conclude the main contract within the third quarter.

LNG Carrier Rescues Fishers in Atlantic Ocean

An LNG carrier managed by NYK LNG Shipmanagement rescued 11 Portuguese fishers in the Atlantic Ocean on June 22.While en route to the port of Dunkirk in France, the vessel received a distress call from a fishing boat that had sustained hull damage. The LNG carrier immediately headed to the scene and rescued all 11 individuals on board.They are reported to be in good health and are scheduled to disembark at Dunkirk port around June 26.

GTT Receives Order for LNG Carrier Tank Design From HD KSOE

GTT announced that it has received an order from HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering (HD KSOE) for the tank design of a new Liquefied Natural Gas Carrier (LNGC).The LNGC will be built by Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries on behalf of the ship-owner Purus, a specialist in low-carbon maritime transport solutions.As part of this order, GTT will design the vessel’s cryogenic tanks, which will have a total capacity of 180,000 m³. The tanks will be fitted with the Mark III Flex membrane containment system, developed by GTT.Delivery of the vessel is scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2027.

Venture Global Launches First LNG Vessel from Planned Nine-Strong Fleet

U.S. liquefied natural gas (LNG) exporter Venture Global has launched its first LNG vessel, the Venture Gator, at the Samsung Heavy Industries shipyard in Geoji-si, South Korea.The Venture Gator is the first of nine LNG carriers in the Venture Global fleet to be completed in quick succession across three shipyards in South Korea over the coming 24 months, which will transport LNG from the U.S. to multiple global partners and destinations.The ship is said to deploy best-in-class environmental and efficiency technology and will be primarily fueled by Venture Global’s LNG.

French engineering company GTT has received an order from Samsung Heavy Industries for tank designs of 15 new LNG carriers.GTT will design the tanks of these 15 vessels, which will each offer a capacity of 174,000 m3.The tanks will be fitted with the Mark III Flex membrane containment system developed by GTT.The delivery of the vessels is scheduled between the fourth quarter of 2026 and the fourth quarter of 2028.The South Korean shipyard placed an order on behalf of a leading LNG player, with no further details revealed.

CNOOC Awards $2.4B Contracts for Construction of 12 LNG Carriers

China National Offshore Oil Company (CNOOC) has awarded 16 billion yuan ($2.42 billion) worth of contracts to build 12 liquefied natural gas tankers, the largest of their kind in the country, the company said on Thursday.China is the world's largest buyer of the super-chilled gas, while CNOOC is the country's largest importer of the fuel and among the state majors leading a drive to expand their LNG fleet to meet rising import needs and facilitate fast-growing global trade.

Nakilat has taken delivery of a newbuild LNG carrier dubbed Global Sea Spirit, a ship to be commercially and technically managed in-house by Nakilat Shipping Qatar Limited (NSQL). Built by Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) in South Korea, this is the third of four LNG newbuild carriers to be delivered to Global Shipping Co. Ltd., a joint venture between Nakilat (60%) and Maran Ventures Inc. (40%). The first two LNG carriers’ newbuilds (ME-GI type) were delivered in May 2020 and January 2021 respectively and are currently in service.With a cargo carrying capacity of 174,000 cu.
