$5B Empire Wind Project Back On: Trump Administration Ends Federal Halt Amid Energy Compromise

The Trump administration lifted an official stop-work order that had been in place for an entire month on Empire Wind. The project is a $5 billion offshore wind farm being built off the coast of New York. The decision was made after weeks of negotiations by federal officials and New York State representatives, which culminated in a wider compromise. In April, the Department of the Interior abruptly halted the Empire Wind project spearheaded by Norwegian company Equinor ASA. The Department cited concerns about potential disruptions in maritime traffic, military systems, and ongoing assessments of the security of the energy infrastructure.

New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC) announced the execution of three maritime infrastructure related contracts to upgrade port operations at the Brooklyn Marine Terminal. After decades of disinvestment, NYCEDC is committed to redeveloping the terminal and container port, starting with the removal of four out-of-service cranes across Piers 9A and 10, and the purchase of a new electric Ship to Shore (STS) crane to serve the Red Hook Container Terminal at Pier 10.

The unified command consisting of the Coast Guard, New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection, New York City Department of Environmental Protection, New York City Office of Emergency Management, and Monmouth County Department of Health, received oil sample lab results from the Coast Guard Marine Safety Laboratory Friday, linking together oil spill cleanup efforts in both New York and New Jersey.Vane Brothers Company, as represented by Gallagher Marine Systems, has been identified as the responsible party.
