The Swedish coast guard on Thursday boarded a Liberia-flagged bulk carrier suspected of dumping waste in the Baltic Sea, Sweden's civil defence minister said."This is a clear example of how the coast guard conducts active maritime surveillance to combat environmental crimes," Civil Defence Minister Carl-Oskar Bohlin said in a post on X, without naming the vessel.(Reuters)

Stena Bulk Takes Next Step to Reflag First Suezmax Tanker Under Swedish Flag

Shipping company Stena Bulk confirmed that it is in the final stage of executing its plan to reflag five of its Suezmax tankers under the Swedish flag. The first vessel—Stena Sunrise—is now fully prepared for reflagging, which is scheduled to take place in Singapore at the end of July 2025.This milestone follows the company’s original ambition to complete all preparatory steps by 30 June, a goal that has now been fulfilled. Only the final practical steps remain, to be executed during the in-port flag change of Stena Sunrise.

Researchers Identify Swedish 17th Century Warship Shipwreck

Researchers have identified a shipwreck off Porkkala, in southern Finland, as the Swedish warship â€śFalken,” a 17th-century vessel built in Stockholm and considered the “little sister” of the iconic Vasa ship.The shipwreck was discovered 50 years ago, but it is only now that Associate Professor Niklas Eriksson has been able to identify it thanks to a digital 3D model of the ship created by the Finnish Maritime Archaeological Society.“We have realised that a lot of this ship still is preserved," Eriksson said during a dive at the site.

Unifeeder containership SCA Tunadal on Wednesday claimed the maiden call at Sweden’s newest freight port, Stockholm Norvik Port, following the completion of a long port construction project.The container terminal is now open, both for vessel calls and for shore-based business operations at the port. The 32 hectare container terminal is run by Hutchison Ports, one of the world’s largest container terminal operators, with 52 ports in 27 countries.Nine goods in 10 arrive in Sweden by sea, and the Stockholm region accounts for half of Sweden’s entire consumption.
